More About Me

My Life of Guinea Pigs

I currently have 3 perfect piggies named Opal, Ella, and Lulu. All three of them share 3 by 8 C&C cage and have been loving it! Not only have I been learning all about guinea pig care, but my three girls have been along for the ride and are comfortably living in the luxury of pea flakes.

How I Got Started

In the four I have had guinea pigs, friends, and family were always pleased with how they were bigger and smarter than other common rodents kept as pets. Many people started to want a guinea pig as a pet but never knew where to start, so I created Guinea Pig Pros; the all-in-one hot spot of guinea pig care information.

Past guinea pigs

Cocoa 2020-2024

Her Story: Cocoa came along with her sister as a Christmas present in 2020. Later, when her sister Willow passed away, she lived with Ella and Lulu, who were later brought into the herd. She got to experience the transition from a small pet store cage to many different DIY C&C cages and then the final 3 by 8 C&C, which is still in use today. Cocoa developed a consistent eye ulcer, which was then found to be Calcified Bulla Syndrome. An illness with no cure, only weeks after spotting it, she was put to sleep. Cocoa was always very curious and very photogenic.

Housing: pet store cage, 2 by 4 Kavee cage, 4 by 4 Kavee cage, 2 by 8 half Kavee half Cagetopia cage, 2 by 8 top cage with 2 by 8 lower level cage, and finally the DIY 3 by 8 C&C cage.

Favorites: She LOVED pea flakes and carrots; her favorite spot to be scratched was on top of her head.

Looks: Cocoa was a tri-colored (white, brown, and black) American shorthair guinea pig.

Personality: Cocoa was always the dominant piggy until her passing; even with her gut-wrenching illness, she managed to stay atop the hierarchy.

Herd: Willow, then Ella, then Ella and Lulu

Birthday: October 31st, 2020

Passed: August 21st, 2024, at 3 years old

Willow 2020-2021

Her story: She was the first piggy I had. I received her as a Christmas present from PetSmart when I was only in 5th grade.🎁 She became very sick one day after she had lost weight and needed medical care, this was previous to my cavy savviness. 💊 She passed before her vet appointment and made it to one and a half.

Housing: She lived in a tiny PetSmart cage, a rat cage and then finally moved back to a pet store cage. 😔

Favorites: She loved strawberries🍓and would let you scratch her under her chin as much as you wanted.

Looks: Willow had Abyssinian hair with Himalayan coloring.

Personality: A spunky piggy who was the dominant queen. 👑

Herd: Willow lived with Cocoa for her entire life.

Birthday: October 31, 2020
